The Youth Shedz project is a new initiative that provides a safe place for young people to explore who they are, to develop pro-social relationships with suitable role models, develop and learn new skills. The first Youth Shedz project started in Denbigh and the vision is that every town in Wales will eventually have their own project. There are many people in the community who enjoy giving their time and skill set to work with young people and this will be a place for those opportunities to take place. Young people need to be listened to, encouraged (and challenged!) and we hope that this 'space' will meet them where they are at in their lives and walk with them in to a brighter future.
From the very onset of the project the Youth Shed is planned and facilitated by the young people that it serves. The first shed - The Denbigh Youth Shed was designed and created by a group of young people from Grwp Cynefin's Hwb project in the small North Wales town of Denbigh. The Denbigh Shedderz went on to help the Colwyn Bay Shedderz create their shed. We are now working on a model that means there will be a Youth Shed package available to any group of young people to set up their own shed with the support and backing of Youth Shedz Cymru.
The Youth Shed provides an excellent opportunity for participants to achieve the full suite of Essential Skills Wales qualifications.
The Youth Shed is the hub - around which the participants will develop themselves via a range of activities including: Health and Wellbeing, Boxercise/Gym, Nutrition and Employability Skills.
